Hibernation problem.

Microsoft published a hotfix regarding hibernation problems of computers with more than 1GB memory.

http://support.microsoft.com/?kbid=909095

After installing this hotfix, computers with WDE stop hibernating at all.

If you wand to download this hotfix, try to google for WindowsXP-KB909095-x86-ENU.exe. For example:

If I was missunderstood: this is a bug in WDE and should be fixed by PGP team.

Any answer?

Yes it is a bug in our hibernation code. We have revamped our code to be significantly more resilent to OS patches and we expect this new code to be in our next major release.

When is this release coming? And why does the site not warn you that hibernate will not work on dualcore machines or machines with more than a gig?

If it is months away I wish to have a refund. I'm really annoyed at the noddy 30 days support because all I have had back so far is silly auto responses.

It does indeed work on dual-core machines just fine. It also works on machines with more than 1 GB. It does not work with this particular MS patch.

We test with all "normally" issued MS patches (those available via windows update). This patch is only available by request from MS and as such is not part of our normal testing environment.

You may certainly request a refund.

I don't understand several things:

1) When you say it is in the next Major release, do you mean in PGP Version 10.0?

2) Will this correction work with this MS patch?

Althought this patch is not released freely (and it will soon), it is widely spread since more and more people have notebooks with large memory. So please consider testing it also. I don't think ignoring this problem is a good strategy.

I'm not quite sure what you are saying about this patch. I walked into Sony Centre bought a laptop. Walked home did update on Internet. Installed PGP 9 and bang hibernation was gone.

When can we expect a fix and how do I obtain a refund in the interim?

And would it not be a good idea to save everyone's time and warn people of this problem before buying?

I've raised 060516-000016 as the other tickets receive no reply whatsoever so the 30 day support is tosh.

To Mr Lowe,

It is reasonable for users to request that the fixes be made available soon. This patch you refer to from microsoft is clearly not being installed by everyone. Maybe it comes preinstalled. Who knows or cares.

We are asking PGP to fix this problem. If you already have the fixes, why not make them available. It seems like you are saying that the only option is money-back since our support blows up in 30 days.

Please coomment. I have 25 days left.

I wish they would have made this clear up front instead of wasting my time. I upgraded purely for WDE. It has wasted days of my time now.

They should say it does not work with hotfix x and here is how to check if you have hotfix x on your machine or are likely to need it.

Dear PGP programmers.

You have problems with Hibernation from day one of version 9.0, with and without the above patch.

I bought PGP a year ago. I asked for refund then. Now I bought it again, since I really need WDE. I hoped you fixed it during this year. With no luck.

Now I am shutting down my notebook all the time. This is so annoying you can't believe it.

Please Please Please Please Please Please Please Please Please Please Please Please Please Please Please Please Please Please Please Please Please Please Please Please Please Please Please Please publish a fix for this damm problem. This is too much to bare.
