Beta WDE - problem with ipods

Hi

I've been using the beta WDE for snow leopard since it was announced. I thought it was working fine but have noticed a problem with my ipod. I have a 2nd generation shuffle - and it is not being synced. Infact Itunes doesn't even realised that it is attached. It is recognised as being attached to the USB hub when you look in "about this mac", it doesn't show up in Itunes. I have uninstalled PGP and it works perfectly, re-installed PGP beta and back to square one, its not showing up in iTunes. My iphone 3G works perfectly with PGP installed but my daughter's 3rd generation ipod nano doesn't - it behaves just like my shuffle.

This is very odd - any ideas

Thanks

Thank you for reporting this.

Yes, we recently discovered that the PGP WDE driver is not working properly with some iPod models.

Well at least I know this is a recognised fault. Any idea on a timescale for a fix?

Re: Beta WDE - problem with ipods

Hi Duane,

I'm having this issue with my 5th generation iPod as well, however when contacting Apple (I didn't think it was a PGP issue), they indicated that this is a known Snow Leopard issue.

However, if it is a PGP bug, would killing all the services allow it to connect, or is a WDE issue?

Thanks!

I also rang Apple and noted on their forums that some others have had similar problems. However I noted that my ipod was working on my machine before I added pgp, worked on all the other macs in my house that run snow leopard, and worked on my machine when I uninstalled pgp.

[ Edited ]

It is most definitely a problem with WDE. It is a problem with the driver so there's not much that you can do to fix it without removing PGP.  In fact, it would be wise to restart after doing this. In some situations we have seen the file system become unhappy and stop working, causing apps to not launch and general file system unhappiness.

I'm not sure which iPod lhotka was referring to but I can add specifically that the 5th generation Nano (i.e. the video camera one) will not work either.

Re: Beta WDE - problem with ipods

Thanks Duane.  Since it's the WDE driver, I'll refrain from killing that process.  I can report that the original iPod Touch does still work (which doesn't support disk mode).  The 5th gen I referred to earlier is the original video ipod.  I know you can't provide specific timelines, but can you let us know if we should expect a revised beta, or if we're likely to be stuck until the product release?  Hypothetical, not to be taken as gospel, etc, understood :-)

And to the list we can add the iPod Nano 4th Generation (last years Nano-Chromatic).
